Fat Free Turkey Day Survival Tips


Hi Victoria,
Okay, it’s coming and I have to deal with it. Thanksgiving is this week and I am doing really god on my Quick Start Energy Program. I have lost nine pounds and over sixteen inches. I have been so dedicated to starting over and getting ready for the best year of my life in a few weeks.

I have to go with my family to visit all my grease eating relatives, give me the pump up and survival tips so that I don’t blow it and go on a six week sugar binge that will knock me off my program. I don’t want to gain one pound back permanently!

What’s should my strategy be?

Deborah, Congratulations for doing so well on the Quick Start Energy Program. It’s amazing how fast you will lose inches when you change the types of food you eat. Most people don’t understand that if you just shift a few things around in your food selections, you can stop cravings and eating uncontrollable.

Food Affects Mood
Most of us are emotional eaters. Certain foods affect our moods. Once we take the first bite of the wrong food, we set off an eating binge that can last for days. Once that starts it’s almost impossible to stop unless we completely switch to the perfect metabolic food that will stops your cravings in their tracks and stabilize blood chemistry.

Laugh it Off!
You are hilarious! What a great sense of humor you have. Nurture it and use it as much as you can to your advantage, especially this holiday season. Humor is a great equalizer and it can turn many uncomfortable situations into pleasant ones.

I understand this better than most because I am totally an emotional eater. As a matter of fact, just a few minutes ago, I was pacing the floor frustrated about doing something to please someone else or do what I felt would be best for me at the time. I grabbed a bag of whole grain pretzels and was ready to rip into them full force. I was feeling like eating the entire bag. I wanted to grab some of my favorite dip and go to town munching big time! AAHHH…

Instead I took a breath, went to the fridge and grabbed my perfect metabolic food. Then I consciously and gently sat it in the microwave to warm it up for a few seconds. I took a moment to sit at the table and eat it with a cup of hot tea. I needed something that made me feel warm and nurtured inside because I needed that this morning to calm my emotions.

As I sat there, I had a moment to really think about why I was frustrated and what I could DO moving FORWARD to eradicate the frustration. As I sat there, I realized the problem was not as huge as I had made it and once my blood sugar was balanced, it was really no big deal at all. I knew that no matter what I did for this person, they would want me to do even more and then expect more later. Some people are never happy no matter what. I am swamped with projects and my new book is taking every spare minute I have. I had to release the situation and the negative comments the person always makes and move on knowing that I need to take care of my needs first. YEAH!!

By knowing what to eat, consciously thinking before I took a bite and sitting down to eat, I avoided a binge snack attack that could have spiraled into an entire day of mindless fat-growing, hip expanding, thigh-rubbing and stomach-bloating eating.

Fat Free Turkey Day Survival Tips
As you go through the next few weeks, if you want to stay Fat Free and in control of your destiny as you get ready for the best year of your life ahead, you must do the same things:

1. Stay Light. Keep your mood happy and pleasant. Use humor whenever you can to make situations more fun.

2. Choose Good Foods. Know what’s good for your body. You do already because you have the foods already listed for you in the Quick Start Program.

3. Have A Plan. Whenever you eat away form home, decide to what your boundaries are. Have a plan. Eat some vegetables, have protein as much as you can. Put small amounts of different food on your plate. Don’t let anyone put a no-no food on your plate. If you were ill and you couldn’t eat certain foods because your life depends on it, no one would push you to try their favorite three cheese six sticks of butter and heave cream casserole would they? Well, your life does depend on it. Respect your goals and your health and smile real big and laugh and just say “No Thank You” in a loving and kind voice and change the conversation instantly to something else. Such as, your outfit is beautiful!

4. Stay Focused. Keep your sights and emotions on your long-term goals and not get aught up in the fanfare of the holidays. Celebrate, play, dress up, have fun, meet people, enjoy the sights, smells, sounds and experiences that come each day without filling up on food.

5. Talk To Yourself. One of the greatest tools you can use this week is self-talk. Become a motivational coach. Tell yourself to walk away from the desserts. Find someone interesting to talk to. Say affirmations, positive encouraging words to yourself. Pray, praise and sing all the way into the New Year. Become your own best cheerleader.

You can sail though the holidays without adding one more ounce of fat to your body. You can usher in the new year weighing less than you do right now if you stay committed to your Quick Start Program and do your weekly high energy fat burning cardio. Find the perfect New Year’s Eve party dress and tape a picture of it on your refrigerator door and see yourself dancing all night long!

If you can see it, you can achieve it!

Victoria:
I have read over your wake up call several times and realized that I too had a wake up call. I am a secretary employed at a hospital and they call codes that we have to respond to example code red = fire. On this particular day a code was called on the 4th floor of the hospital and of course you cannot take the elevator.

Now I work on the ground floor which meant I had to climb 5 flights of stairs to get to the 4th floor, when I got to the 4th floor, I was breathing so hard, my heart was pounding, I was sweating, I couldn't even talk, I felt like lying on the floor, but I made my way to a chair and collapsed. I got a book and started fanning myself, and trying to catch my breath. With everyone asking "are you alright"? And I could only shake my head, "yes". I of course waited and took the elevator back to the ground floor. But later I begin to think about what the doctor told me on my last visit. "Heart disease runs in your family and you could stand to lose 20 or more pounds", when it came to weight I would always put 125lbs. but I weighed 158lbs.

After that incident I joined a health club, and started in the low impact aerobics classes Monday thru Thursday "faithfully". I noticed that I had more stamina and energy, and begun losing weight and my thighs did not rub together... joy, joy. From this, 2 years ago I started an aerobics class at my church 2 days a week, I had instructors come and teach the class, then I was encouraged to become an instructor which I will become certified in a few months.

We have gone from chair aerobics, to regular aerobics, to step aerobics, and to strength training. I have 2 other young ladies that work with me, and we all enjoy it so much. And my doctor is pleased with my weight, and so am I. I love your dvd's and use your instructions to teach my classes, I love the way you explain what you are doing and why. Thanks for all that you do, because you are an encouragement to me.
