Low Blood Sugar Blues!


Ms Johnson,

I got your name from my boss and I am in dire need of a quick answer for my client. I won’t use her name because I don’t want to expose her personal life to everyone. We are in the music video production and one of the female talent is having major emotional issues.

Depressed… agitated…dizzy… crying bouts!!
She refuses to eat breakfast because her stomach sticks out when she eats, which makes her energy levels low. Then at about two hours into rehearsals, she gets depressed, easily agitated, dizzy and then has an emotional crying bout, which you know, destroys her two-hour make up session!!!!

When we have a break she drinks coffee and then wants me to bring her one of those caffeine loaded sodas and I always make up some excuse for not getting one and try to distract her so she forgets because it gives her the shakes and then she throws major temper tantrums.

I am not complaining about her behavior, I want to help her get balanced and improve her energy, which will help her performance. Then we can wrap up this project and she can take some time off and get a well-deserved vacation. My boss said she takes your Dance Fitness DVD’s on vacation with her so think if she read something from you, it would have more impact than anything I could say. Whatever you write, I will send it to her Blackberry ASAP.

WOW J.Q.,
YOU are a brave woman working on a music video set! I have total sympathy for you. I have personally experienced exactly what your client is. I was producing a series of TV shows and I wanted to look great so I had a tendency to not want to eat. There was even a time when I was producing a workout series and I would leave the set and go sit on a Lifecycle just to wind down. I could not stop trying to look good for the cameras. I was intoxicated by the prospect of looking good for a shoot.

One morning I was working with my set director and I could not stand still on my mark for more than five seconds at a time. He was going nuts trying to get me to stay on my mark and deliver my opening lines without rocking back and forth like one of those bobbing dogs in the back of a 65 Chevy! I was fidgety and I felt shaky all day. The only thing I had that morning was a plain bagel, a cup of coffee and a handful of vitamins. That was before I gave up simple carbohydrates, switched to decaf and went to the liquid vitamins that I now swear by. I had the typical symptoms of Low Blood Sugar, known as Sugar Blues. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes earlier in my career and those same ailments plagued me constantly before I became a self-driven nutrition research guru. Craving for Sweets
A craving for sweets and starch in excessive amounts between meals is the first sign of a low blood sugar level.

Nervousness, Irritability, Fatigue,
When the blood sugar level falls much below normal, symptoms such as nervousness, irritability, fatigue, depression, disturbed vision, and headaches appear.

Sweating, Trembling, Numbness,
Other symptoms are sweating, trembling, numbness, absent-mindedness, dizziness, palpitations of the heart, and some sexual disturbances. Most hypoglycemia sufferers feel hungry and need to eat frequently to get over the feeling of weakness and emotional irritability and instability. They feel tense, agitated, anxious and unstable if they to go without food for several hours.

New Research Links Type 2 Diabetes to Alzheimer's disease

More new evidence is emerging that if you have type 2 diabetes and don't control it -- or if you have pre-diabetes -- that you can increase your risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease.

Indeed, new research findings linking the two diseases were presented Sunday by the Alzheimer’s Association at the 10th International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ICAD), an event in Madrid that drew 5,000 researchers from around the world, according to the organization.

These are powerful effects that can alter your entire life if not resolved immediately. This is not the time to continue thinking about changing your diet and your entire lifestyle.

Quick Tips For Conquering Low Blood Sugar Blues

The old emphasis was on protein, the idea being that meals high in protein would slow the release of sugar into the bloodstream and help control your blood sugar level. Research does not bear this idea out, however so... Skip the eggs and cheese. If you have reactive hypoglycemia, consider these tips:

* Eat frequently. Eat a small meal or snack every three hours. Whatever you eat should be in the context of a Low Glycemic Diet, though. A diet high in sugar and saturated fat are not recommended.
* Eat a variety of foods
. Fortunately, dietary advice for controlling low blood sugar conforms to general recommendations for healthy eating: plenty of whole grains, beans, fruits, vegetables, low fat or fat free sources of protein and nonfat dairy products.
* Cut Out Simple Sugar
. Eliminate sugary drinks and candy and pastry snacks.
* Increase Fiber.
Eat fiber-rich fresh vegetables, whole grains, beans, and fresh fruits.
* Exercise. It helps you increase energy, burn stored fat and control blood sugar.

J.Q., have your food service people make up some of the food combinations from the my Quick Start Energy Program and put it in her trailer, keep a plate by her make-up set and have someone who gives her a drink of one of the smoothies recommended between takes. You can use a straw so that it does not mess up her lipstick or drip on her wardrobe.

Also make a quick call to her agent and do some personal feel good research and find out what make her feel good and give her some soul food. If she is kinesthetic, be more warm and gentle and help her feel more love on the set. I know that everything will turn out fantastic. I know because you did the most important thing necessary to success for yourself and others… action. You took action by emailing me for help! I Am Back To My Pre-Baby Weight And My Cellulite Is GONE!

Victoria, You are an angel! I had a beautiful baby girl ten months ago, her name is Meridith, and I had fifteen pounds of baby weight that would not go away. Healthy Recipe

Tangy Cabbage

Makes
: 8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 teaspoon non/lowfat margarine
  • 4 cups cabbage, shredded
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 4 cup plus 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 3/4 cup water

Directions:

  • Melt margarine in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add cabbage and sauté
  • until it begins to wilt.
  • Add remaining ingredients and increase heat to medium-high and boil.
  • 20 minutes or until most of liquid has evaporated.

Nutritional Information:

  • Serving size: 1 cup
  • Calories: 75
  • Fat: 1 g
  • Cholesterol: 5 mg
  • Protein: 0.5 g

Miss Victoria,

I just have to tell you how thankful I am for you and your ministry. I have been praying asking God if He wants me to start an exercise ministry in the Church, to give me help from an exercise instructor I'd personally used and respected. The next day, you sent me the email program. I'm also currently reading your book, "Body Revival". I had read the Weigh Down Diet, which says some of the same things you do, but I totally disagreed with her take on exercise. Then Wednesday, October 25, 2006, Oprah had a program on about Weight Loss Surgery's Emotional Side Effects, i.e. alcoholism, sexual misbehaviour, etc... It just reconfirmed the point that when we get our comfort from anywhere else than God, that even if we lose the weight, the "real" problem still remains. You gotta pray, weigh and pay!!!
