Help My Scale Is Stuck

Victoria,
I started the low-carb lifestyle with your Quick Start Energy Program and lost a lot of weight right away. Now I feel like I have been at the same weight forever. Help, My scale is stuck! I swear if I get on it one more time and it doesn’t budge, I am going to throw it out the window. What can I do to get it go down again. Do carbohydrates really make that much difference?

Daniela, First of all, good job losing weight! And yes, carbs do make that much of a difference!

I was working with a professional dancer who needed to get ready for an important performance. She flew into town to stay for four weeks to get her body to a weight that was acceptable for the performance without starving and leaving her too week for a demanding performance.

We got off to a smashing start. She followed the diet I put together for her of low-carb, high fiber and high water content catabolic effect. We trained three times per day. I designed high intensity, short duration workouts so that she could still rehearse, rest, get her massages and then recover with sound sleep and one nap per day. She was so dedicated the first two weeks.

She danced so beautifully. Her lines were flawless and her passion for movement flowed from her and touched everyone watching. As with all of us artists, emotions can drive us or paralyze us. Right in the middle of our program, she got into a big fight with her boyfriend and she lost it. She locked herself up in her hotel room and refused to come out. Of course we could have gotten a key and gone in, but it was up to her to get back in the program. I gave her a day to cry, throw some pillows, purge the pain.

We only had twelve days left to sculpt her body ready for her debut without injury or dietary depletion. AAAHHH!! I just kept praying that she would come out and we could sue her pain to drive her to work hard in the gym.

Well, after two days, she called my cell phone filled with guilt, frustration and anxiety. Apparently she had gone through the snacks in fridge and carbed out on cookies and candy. Her weight flew up faster than a burlesque skirt and she had exceeded her daily per-diem fool allowance that would be deducted from her performance pay.

She was freaking out. She could not believe that her weight went up that fast and she was going in debt.

I could. Everything we do has a consequence. Even though much of it was water, if we did not get back on the program immediately it would turn to dimples and fat around her waistline and abs.

I had to take immediate action to move in the right direction. I started by having the fridge removed from her room and restricting her room service to help her stay on her food budget. I had her put on some sweat bottoms and do some endurance training to help move the excess water out of her legs. I had her eat low-carb green vegetables throughout the entire day along with several glasses of lemon water to help flush out the sugar from her system.

It worked. We stabilized her weight in two days and went back to getting ready for her show. We made it. She lost a four more pounds, which made a total of 10 pounds. She was happy, had a lot of energy and loved the way she looked in her near naked costume.

Her production company was thrilled at the results. She looked amazing and she was not fatigued during the rest of her rehearsals. Plus, she let go of the emotions about her loser boyfriend who broke up with her while she was a way training for a show! What a jerk!

Here are some tips to help you move that scale towards the down-low!

TIPS TO START LOSING WEIGHT

STAY IN THE RACE! – Don’t quit. Stay with the program.

Your continued persistence will yield you a tremendous breakthrough. Many time we quit just before the victory. Our bodies go through many different metabolic and hormonal changes, which can make our weight fluctuate. Go by how your pants fit and look for bagginess and then get on the scale to track your progress. And for all the experts who say your weight doesn’t matter, tell them to tell that to your insurance carrier, the doctor’s office and the DMV. Everyone asks your weight and uses it as a gauge for measurement. So in reality, your weight does matter. SO let’s keep working on getting it to a number that has proven healthy and fit.

SUGAR STINKS! IT MAKES YOU FAT AND RUINS YOUR BLOOD SUGAR AND STOKES THE WRONG HORMONES.

Hidden sugar can ruin your diet and push the scale back up overnight! Check for it in your foods. Sugar goes under many different names & in many cases does NOT appear on the label.

In chemistry, the ending "ose" indicates sugar; so beware of ---ose ingredients on food labels. Table sugar, the white granulated type, is known as sucrose. Here is a list some of other names of sugars you might encounter:

"ose" sugars are pure carb, thus 1 gram of sugar = 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories.
Sucrose, fructose, lactose, dextrose, glucose, maltose


GET STRAIGHT - STOP CHEATING and SKIPPING WORKOUTS

If you think just a little sugar is okay, you’re wrong. If you think you can make up workouts, you can’t. Take a select period of your life to lose life-robbing fat and heal your organs so that you won’t end up on expensive chemical drugs with numerous side effects that are sometimes worse than the illness. Just get up and move every day!

You will be totally shocked at the amazing new body you can define with daily sculpting moves and doing 45-60 minutes of daily fat burning, body slimming cardio.

EAT SMALLER MEALS! Yes, I said it! YOUR FOOD INTAKE MAY BE TOO LOW

Many times we carry over habits from other starvation diets & we eat too little. Eat more of the right food off of the Low-Carb list four to five times a day. A frequent eating of the right foods on a schedule will boost your metabolism and provide a constant source of energy without the insulin rebound.

Also make sure you stay hydrated. Drink your two to four quarts of non-sugar liquids every day, 24/7. De-hydration can stall the scale, while a hydrated body freely releases excess water.


STOP SHAKING IT! YOU MAY BE USING TOO MUCH SALT – Too much salt can lead to water retention and stall your scale.

Most recommend not exceeding the range of 1,500 and 2,400 milligrams (mg) a day for healthy adults. Keep in mind that the lower your sodium, the more beneficial effect on blood pressure.

Your taste for salt is acquired, so it's reversible. To unlearn this salty savoring, decrease your use of salt gradually and your taste buds will adjust. Most people find that after a few weeks of cutting salt, they no longer miss it.

Processed and prepared foods.

Most sodium in a person's diet comes from eating processed and prepared foods, such as canned vegetables, soups, luncheon meats and frozen foods. Food manufacturers use salt or other sodium-containing compounds to preserve food and to improve the taste and texture of food.

Use herbs, spices and other flavorings to enhance foods. Learn how to use fresh or dried herbs, spices, zest from citrus fruit, and fruit juices to jazz up your meals.

CHECK YOUR MEDS WTH YOUR DOCTOR
THE MEDICINES YOU ARE TAKING CAN STALL OR INCREASE YOUR WEIGHT

Many drugs, even aspirin, can cause hypoglycemia. Watch out for hormones, amphetamines, diuretics, antihistamines, anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, anticoagulants, ant diabetics, antibiotics, tranquilizers, clofibrate, acetaminophen, and propanolol.

Don’t stop without your doctor’s permission. Check with them and see what she or he will let you skip for a while during your weight loss phase. Many people find that when they lose weight, they don’t need certain drugs any longer.

HORMONES CAN STALL YOUR SCALE

Hormones can definitely slow down your weight loss and stimulate the production of insulin to high levels, which can lead to storing fat. Estrogen (used in birth control pills) and Testosterone have much the same effect.

Talk to your physician about alternatives that may not cause weight gain.

Get right on this list and attack the fat with vengeance. Don’t wait to see if it goes down by itself. Take immediate action and get your body back on a losing cycle. You can lose again for few weeks and then you will stabilize again. Hang out at your new weight for fourteen days to a month and then reapply yourself until you get to your goal weight.

Stay in the game and you will have the body you want plus you will stop disease formation and you will improve in energy and stamina. Your quality of life will multiply. When you are fit, the benefits are endless.

Bye-Bye Thunder Thighs!

"It is a miracle that I am standing before you wearing these skimpy red Nike shorts with out a hint of self-consciousness or shame. Two years ago I would have never dreamed of this day. I have read over your wake up call several times and realized that I too had a wake up call. I am a secretary employed at a hospital and they call codes that we have to respond to example code red = fire. On this particular day a code was called on the 4th floor of the hospital and of course you cannot take the elevator. Now I work on the ground floor which meant I had to climb 5 flights of stairs to get to the 4th floor, when I got to the 4th floor, I was breathing so hard, my heart was pounding, I was sweating, I couldn't even talk, I felt like lying on the floor, but I made my way to a chair and collapsed. I got a book and started fanning myself, and trying to catch my breath. With everyone asking "are you alright"? And I could only shake my head, "yes". I of course waited and took the elevator back to the ground floor. But later I begin to think about what the doctor told me on my last visit. "Heart disease runs in your family and you could stand to lose 20 or more pounds", when it came to weight I would always put 125lbs. but I weighed 158lbs. After that incident I joined a health club, and started in the low impact aerobics classes Monday thru Thursday "faithfully". I noticed that I had more stamina and energy, and begun losing weight and my thighs did not rub together... joy, joy. From this, 2 years ago I started an aerobics class at my church 2 days a week, I had instructors come and teach the class, then I was encouraged to become an instructor which I will become certified in a few months. We have gone from chair aerobics, to regular aerobics, to step aerobics, and to strength training. I have 2 other young ladies that work with me, and we all enjoy it so much. And my doctor is pleased with my weight, and so am I. I love your dvd's and use your instructions to teach my classes, I love the way you explain what you are doing and why. Thanks for all that you do, because you are an encouragement to me.
