I have lost twenty pounds and I still feel fat and flabby. I thought if I lost weight, I would be in better shape. I diet and do cardio like you said four times a week. I don’t want to bulk up so I have stayed a way from weight lifting. Do you think I should start lifting? How do I not get bulky?

Hi Alisia,
Congratulations! You dropped twenty pounds of grease. That is fantastic.

You think like most women today who do not understand the importance of having lean muscle mass and are to scared of developing large, bulky muscles that would make you look manly.

I love to lift weights so much, that I did natural competitive bodybuilding show years ago. It was a blast and I loved the way I looked. It is extremely difficult and you don’t actually realize how hard it is to achieve and build large amounts of muscle. Having more lean muscle mass actually helps boost your metabolism, and helps you burn fat faster.

Weight lifting for women is a powerful tool for enhancing your body transformation and is a fantastic anti-aging tool.

At my first contest I as 16% body fat which is too high to place in the competition. I was ecstatic because at my highest my body fat measurement I was over 30%.

Yes, I was over 30% grease. The recommended range of body fat percentage for healthy women is 18-22%. At the peak of my competitive cycle I was 8%. It was extremely difficult to get there and not very healthy to maintain.

I thought I was doing great until I met Lynda Murray six time Ms. Olympia.

"It is a miracle that I am standing before you wearing these skimpy red Nike shorts with out a hint of self-consciousness or shame. Two years ago I would have never dreamed of this day. As a matter of fact, it was exactly two years ago that I found myself in a department store dressing room bare to my underwear and in shock that my once “claim to fame” once beautiful legs had gone sour---to cottage cheese thighs that is. Healthy Recipe

Spinach-Cheese Lasagna Rolls

Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 6 oz. whole-wheat lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
  • 1/4 cup egg substitute or egg whites
  • 1 1/2 cups nonfat ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup lowfat ricotta cheese
  • 1/3 cup + 2 tbsp. non/lowfat Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 10 oz. frozen chopped spinach, thawed, drained, and dried
  • 1 1/2 cups nonfat pasta sauce
  • 3/4 cup nonfat shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 12 x 2-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

  • Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions; drain and set aside.

  • Combine egg substitute, nonfat and low-fat ricotta cheese, and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese in medium bowl; mix well. Stir in spinach.

  • Spoon a thin layer of pasta sauce to cover bottom of baking dish.

  • Place 1/4 cup spinach mixture on each noodle; roll lasagna around mixture and place seam side down in baking dish. Repeat with remaining noodles and spinach mixture.

  • Pour remaining pasta sauce over top; sprinkle with mozzarella and 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese.

  • Cover baking dish with foil and bake 35 to 40 minutes until hot and bubbly. Remove cover and bake 5 minutes until cheese is lightly browned.

  • Fat: 2 g
  • Cholesterol: 20 mg
  • Protein: 38 g
  • Carbohydrates: 51 g
  • Fiber: 2 g
  • Sodium: 819 mg
