Victoria, How do I stay motivated long enough to change my eating habits? I work out with your Dance Jamm DVD which I love on a regular basis, but I want to go all the way.  I want what you talk about so much.  I want it all! I deserve to look great and feel even better.

I want so desperately to lose this ugly body fat that is hiding my perfect body.  I want to feel good about myself when I go out salsa dancing. 

I want to wear fun clothes and feel like I am successful at this.  I want to get off the diet roller coaster permanently.  I am exhausted from failing so many times.  What do you suggest I do?

Ameliana,
You are closer to your goals than you realize.  You are working out with me regularly and that is fantastic. You must begin each day with a heart of thanksgiving and then move into a line of thinking that will move you in the direction of your goals and dreams.  Forget yesterday, you can’t go back and undo what you did, ate, thought, drank etc. 

YOU can determine your choices this day and the days to come as they unfold. Your choices are the most crucial aspect of success. You can choose healthy low carbohydrate food which helps you lose fat and balance your biochemistry. Your biochemistry is the key to rapid fat loss and quick inch reduction over your entire body. 

You will move in the directions of your thoughts and feelings

I am so glad you asked this question in the context that you did. It is one of the top ten questions that come to my office on a regular basis. Please read the information I am going to share with you over and over.  Whenever I get stuck in my life or feel powerless and hit with what seems like impossible obstacles, I read material like this every single day. 

I have certain prayers, affirmations and teachings that I study for months at a time until the principle or wisdom or understanding becomes a part of who I am. I don’t want to keep repeating the same mistake over and over. I want you to be happy and reclaim your power over food and life’s obstacles too.

Many times we believe that we understand something just because we see familiar words or phrases.  Reading and recognizing words and phrases are only the beginning of permanent change. You must have permanent change in order to produce a permanent effect.

I am in the business of helping you understand that you have the beginnings of what you need to build the best body ever.  It is your ability to process information and then extract the gems from the information and then take necessary action to see the results you desire.

Every athlete, recording artist and beautiful mom that I have ever worked with has dramatically improved their overall health, abilities and their performance on every level. I love to see everyone including my elite athletes discover how powerful and skilled they are when they are focused and in the zone of single minded concentration.

When I was competing in natural bodybuilding, my coach and trainer would say “focus, concentrate, and get your head in the game”! That was while he was eating half a turkey and I was starving from contest dieting.

While coaches say these words on a daily basis, sometimes athletes don’t exactly understand what they should focus on because they aren’t always taught how to develop a laser beam single-minded focus.

Think about it - while coaches and athletes spend countless hours developing physical skills and strengths, how many hours a week do you personally invest developing your personal mental skills and strengths? You must invest in your mental power just like you invest in your physical strength and power.

One of the most critical aspects for developing a winning mental game for success in dieting, work, school, raising a family, sports and life is the ability to corral your focus into a clear and defined goal properly.

Here are some powerful tips to help you develop laser beam focus, which will lead you towards the success, you so desperately want right now.  You have to think, see, feel, embrace and savor you’re new body beginning right now!  Right now is all you have Ameliana. 

Beautiful Body Success Tips

Quit (Stop) Your Old (so yesterday) Habits.

You are fully aware of what old death producing habits you have to quit and completely just flat out STOP.  You see us women like to hold onto old, un-useful, raggedy, worn out, no good stuff! It’s our nature or nurture, as some prefer to state it.  Either way, STOP, Throw it out, and put it through your emotional shredder.

It’s difficult to change even when you know that your defeating thoughts act as roadblocks to achieving your best self.

Beginning with one habit, picture yourself behaving in the desired manner on your mind's screen. So, if your goal is to stop eating sugar, project forward in your mind by creating pictures of yourself in triggering situations where you would ordinarily give in and eat junk.  Instead, you're not eating junk—with great victory, you are in total control of yourself, smiling, carrying on pleasant conversation, feeling really good about yourself and others, receiving positive reactions from others.

The more you visualize yourself practicing yourself engaging in your new habit, the easier it will be in reality and the quicker it will manifest. This technique is not a panacea. Change in any habit requires persistent effort and burning desire on your part.

Develop Your Mental Game

As a Woman thinketh, so is she (paraphrase)

Get in the game now. Get in the moment, be present in the feelings and be committed to walk right into your new body.  Be aware, shut out the noise and distractions from all the other tasks you have to do. They will be there when you are done.

All throughout the day, practice generating positive and powerful thoughts. Thoughts are things and they manifest the natural thing you concentrate on the most.

In order to make those positive and powerful thoughts come true, you need to charge them with emotional energy. Thoughts that are charged with emotional energy have greater affect and can drive you into proper action.

Ameliana, that is what you need when you want to eat something that will create fat in your body and move you further away from having fun buying great new clothes that you feel good in.

Think about your food choice before you put it into your mouth.

DO NOT EAT mindlessly out of boredom, convenience or stress or even worse, outside influence.  If someone is tempting you, excuse yourself, walk a way for a minute and go inside and call forth some strength, courage and self-restraint.  They don’t walk in your shoes and they definitely will not be dancing in your new skinny jeans.

Feel your body at its perfect size and weight. Imagine your abs flat and tight.  Feel how you would feel if your jeans were just a little bit loose in the thighs but hugging your new dimple free glutes like a body glove.

Don’t Let Your Past Rob Your Future

One of my female NCAA Basketball athletes struggled with her focus and concentration before games. She found herself afraid to take shots because of her past mistakes.

She was letting past mistakes cloud her present focus.

We worked to develop a pre-game mental rehearsal that felt successful and gave her the confidence to drive forward and become aggressive and reclaim the talent that got her to where she was, a starter on one of the top ranked basketball programs in the nation. 

I helped her mentally release the past games and focus totally on the present game and to take each shot as a brand new opportunity.  The result was astonishing.  She got her game back and became an even greater athlete and stronger person.  It did not happen overnight, but with practice of concentrating on her goal, being in the moment and shutting out the old voices along with eliminating emotional and physical distractions. She was able to achieve great success

The new training in sports psychology is focused on mental imagery, meditation and mental clarity. Research shows dramatic improvement when the mind is focused and experiencing new skills and abilities while mentally rehearsing success.

Imagery and visualization are part of the puzzle, but the most significant method to improve your game by consistently practicing doing the right thing, making the best choice and taking the most effective action right now. 

Your underlying beliefs must be in agreement with your goals. Most frustrations and blocks to winning have to do with worthiness and the belief that you deserve to succeed and will succeed.  Therefore you must re-create your self-esteem to reflect a powerful and successful self-image.

Re-Create Your Self Image

When you're making changes in your behavior and way of thinking, how you feel about yourself tends to fluctuate throughout the day and from day to day.

Going through the re-creation process often takes its toll on your feelings of adequacy, strength and self-worthiness. Using this visualization tool can be an effective method of enhancing your positive feelings.

Picture you as the way you would like to be in your total beauty and splendor on your mind's screen.  Take your time, don’t rush this process. See yourself happy, fit, lean, smiling, peaceful, glowing, and exuding self-confidence.

Make affirming and validating statements to yourself about yourself. Be sure to take the time to feel the uplifting emotions that come from being the best you want to be.

Talk About It Girl!

Some of those statements might include, "I love to eat healthy, I make perfect food choices, I look stunning at the party, I always make the perfect choice for myself, I love the way my new body feels and looks, I enjoy the sweat when I train, it’s so cleansing physically and emotionally." "I do a good job of taking care of me." "I have the power to overcome any obstacle that gets in the way of being my best, I will not be persuaded to fail ever again."

Even if you don't truly feel this way about yourself, continue with this exercise regularly. Remember you're re-creating your internal script, which is re-creating your self-image.

If you can see it, you can be it and then you will have it!

Healthy Recipe

Asparagus Chili Dip

 Quantity: Serves 6

Ingredients:

      12 Asparagus spears, cooked and chopped
      2 Tsp. Lemon Juice
      2 Tbsp. Drained canned mild green chillies
      1 Tbsp. chopped red onion
      2 Tsp. olive oil
      1/2 Tsp. Salt
      1/2 Garlic clove, crushed
      Dash each ground nutmeg and peper

Instructions:

In a blender or food processor, combine all ingredients and process until smooth. Refrigerate, covered, until chilled.
