How to have guaranteed success in 2006!

You are a success when you see “failure” as a temporary setback or as a learning experience. You are a success when you find yourself in bliss—happiness for no apparent reason! You are a success when hear others complain about “problems” they are having and you realize that you don’t have anything to contribute to their defeating conversation!

You are a success when your occupation is your passion and it is enjoyable each and every day of your life! You are a success when you realize that giving of your time, talent or money to the needy is a pleasure and a way of life! You are a success when you don’t worry about whether or not you are a success!

This week I want to give you my Top 5 steps to achieving optimal health in 2006:

1. Muscle Shaping Workout: 2 - 3 times per week. This workout is a shaping workout with light resistance or hand weights. (Ex: Power Step Training)

2. Cardio Workout: 3 - 5 times per week. To start, do what you can, even if that is only walking to the mailbox and back, eventually working up to a min. of 20 min. per workout 3 - 5 times per week with your heart rate at 60 - 70% of max. (Ex: Cardio Dance Jamm)

Weekly Fit Tip

When strength training, pay more attention to the correct lifting technique than the amount of weight you use for each exercise. The most common and critical training mistakes are those of exercise technique. The tendency to use too much weight typically results in poor form, which decreases your ability to get results and increases the risk of injury.

Examples of poor weightlifting technique are bouncing the bar off your chest in the Bench Press, using any sort of momentum to accomplish the lift, and training at fast speeds. These mistakes will not help you improve your strength or muscle tone and will work counter to your goals.

So choose a weight that you can handle comfortably (I suggest starting with 2 - 3 pounds in my Power Shaping II video, and working your way up to 5 pounds). By starting out slow you will give you body time to adapt and your muscles to strengthen and tighten giving you that fit look without risk of injury.

Healthy Recipe

Greek Burgers

Makes: 8 burgers

Ingredients:

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped
  • 1-1/2 cups non/lowfat yogurt
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground turkey, lean
  • 2-1/4 teaspoons feta cheese, crumbled
  • 6 pita bread loaves, cut in half
  • 1-1/2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 1-1/2 red onions, sliced

Directions:

  • Combine garlic and mint in a small bowl and mash. Add yogurt, mix and set aside.
  • Combine turkey and feta cheese in a mixing bowl. Form into 8 patties and sprinkle with pepper.
  • Broil 5-10 minutes per side or until turkey is cooked through.
  • Serve in pita bread with tomatoes, onions and yogurt sauce.

Calories: 310
Fat: 3 g
Cholesterol: 80 mg
Protein: 30 g
Carbohydrates: 40 g
Fiber: 2.5 g
